question 8

My preliminary and my final scene has made a significant difference my preliminary sequence was the first time I have ever done filming as I was not a GCSE student so I had to start new by learning all the basic techniques of how to use the cameras and software. In my first seuquence there were many issues such as there was bad continuity, out of focus shots, actors were not chosen well they had kept on laughing not really taking anything seriously, and when we wanted to shoot in a particular room they were vacated to other classes so this was another issue. So Idid have a couple jump cuts and there was some scenes where I did not get the charcter fully into the secen also there was a limited range of shots you can use but I had tried to edit it my best. Now in my final scene the issues were that the camera was somtimes out focus in my first shoot and the lighting was not great, but that was all resolved in my second shoot were I put the camera on auto focus which ensured me to have a better quality video with a wide variety of shots I can do from different angles to make my film more proffessional and this time there was no jump cuts and the sound was very clear when I had recorded. So overall the skills I have picked up were to make better use of my time management, making a script, step outline shooting outline and storyboards, also I leart how to use different social media and a different variety of shots used eg panning shot with the elastic band to ensure a smoother shot used these were all the skills I picked up since the start of my preliminary.

question 7

At first I had found it quite complicated because I had not known much about the imac but I done some background research and tested out new things and  soon developed the skills I had needed. We had used a new software called Imovie star which was much more up to date and better quality and which was easier to use, compared to the old Imovie software we had.

I also used YouTube as my  main export I exported my preliminary green screen, animatic  and my main video. It was a quick and easy way for me to upload my things on which was quite basic and didn't really need to do any research into how to use it
I had used a tripod for all my shots to ensure that none of my shots were wobbly and that they were accurate it would not look as professional if I had done it by hand so that's why I had used the tripod to get good accuracy and pin point precision

question 6

These are the DSLR cameras I have learnt that these are new cameras which were invested in by my school it is more complex to use however ensure better quality by the auto focus and the different camera shots you can do on this compared to the old cameras we had used previously in our project

question 5

This was a tracking shot used to establish the area as you can see terraced houses implying this not a high social class area lower disposable income compared to the suburbs the diegetic music in the background reinforces  the type of  music played in Handsworth with the upbeat tempo

This close up shot implies that he is the boss and the viewers can distinguish who is the man of authority and this the most serious scene, he should be taken seriously as you can tell by his facial expression of a blank serious look on the face the mise en scene is used very well here because of the dark suit and the way the camera is tilted at him making him looke bigger in this scene.

This close up shot used here implies that he has died a excruciating death which makes the viewers feel sympathy

This establishing shot shows the overall look of Handsworth it shows it is a very multicultural diverse are with the rap beat in the background

This panning shot shows sneakz getting killed in a drive by this entices the viewers  and lifts them of their seats in a action packed scene

This mid shot of sneakz talking his rude street slag implies he doesn't care who he is talking to. This gives a very protaganist view about the character that sneakz is a strong balderdash guy who is quite rebellious.

question 4

My target audience is aimed at young adults, I had done some primary research of what films people liked and preferred and this brought up the portfolio of who I am aiming it at.
Scarface
Godfather
Boyz in the hood
Notorious
Menace to society
So I tried to portray this strong male character that is rebellious and makes a name for himself which most of these films have in common.

question 3

3) What kind of media institution might distribute your media products why?
Small independent firms distribute viral on social networking sites such as YouTube, Facebook, and twitter they try to market there films like this to make it viral. Word of mouth is mainly what independent firms try to do. As I am trying to reach the widest range of audience because my film does not target niche it relates to an everyday life situation. We will need a heavy investment so we will need other major production companies such as 20th century fox, universal pictures and Columbia picture production. These production companies release films similar to mines an example of a successful gangster biopic is Notorious which had made a gross profit of $36 million dollars so these production companies will make any film reach the broad audience that I am looking for and these companies have good making strategies such as
Press release
Word of mouth
Adverts, TV, radio
Bus shelters
Social media Facebook, twitter
These factors will help me reach my full potential of reaching the key audience; many people have said that they are interested in these types of films so that’s why 20th century fox will make my film successful.

question 2

The image I had chosen who both play big gangsters in the film, I had used stereotypical conventions here that black people get themselves into the crime life. I had compared these two characters because they have this ruff strong bravado look which I had been going for.
Here I compared Gurmit to Scarface (Tony Montana) he is a well known gangster known by all viewers, here we tried to give our character a serious role to play. He had a to have a ruff edge with this distinctive look and masculinity about himself this was supposed to imply to viewers that he is a man of authority and he is a key role and should be taken seriously. I had groomed m character to dress smart so he looks like he is up for business and he shows his predominance in this role.

Media evaluation

1)In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My first frame is my ident which lasted about 3seconds long, I decided to call it Rockafella because it is something innotive which catches the consumers eye. The lightning and thunder noise in the background the lightning symbolises that this a fierce ad strong, it gives it that cutting edge that I was going for making Rockafella engaging to the audience.
Second frame used here, we used a tracking shot of sneakz walking, knocking on the door anxiously showing he has come for business this is a key aspect frame because we identify who the main character is.
Third frame, I used a continuous close up shot of the drug dealer’s face and the fact he has cocaine in his hand his scene reinforces the consumer that my genre is a gangster biopic and that there is big money handled in this because of the suitcase.
Fourth frame shows a close up sneakz walking down
Fifth frame shows the car this hinders a sense of foreshadowing that in the frame before that this is the last we see of sneakz, which we do because he gets killed in a drive by.
Frame 6 shows the title of the film which in the background plays a upbeat hip hop beat this diegetic sound this enforces the type of music played in Handsworth the zoom out of the title gives it that cutting edge.
Frame 7 this is a tracking shot which gives an overall view of Handsworth, it is a very natural and a realistic view and it entices the consumer to feel ore involved as if they are in it themselves.
Frame 8 shows a close up shot of the two gentlemen and their conversation, it shows a flashback of 7years ago.
Frame 9 shows a close up of sneakz and him being rude implying that he was a mischievous as a child we tried to imply that he has grew up living and acting like a thug he is being a rebellious child by disrespecting the older adults.

In my opening sequence the way my scenery was established was quite a gloomy setting with the character (sneakz) having his hood up making him quite a mysterious character we get a first insight of him when his name appears on the screen I did this because in most Hollywood production films their names will appear on screen when they see a main character so that is  why displayed some of my credits like this to emphasise that this is the key character in the film hence the title I had give to my film. The mis en scene I had used in the room I had filmed was a low key lighting to imply that this is where they are doing business. The close up of the briefcase with large sum of money implies that this was a big operation and these two characters are big drug dealers, with the drug dealer having the body guards and sneakz delivering a large bag full of cocaine, also the close up shot of the drug dealers and the conversation between him and sneakz shows that  this is a serious conversation of strictly business. The mise en scene used outside was quite gloomier creating a more serious atmosphere enticing the audience to be empathetic towards sneakz as there is a camera switch of the close up shot of sneakz then goes back to the car foreshadowing that something may happen to sneakz engaging the viewers to carry on and watch what happens next, I think that the mise en scene worked well but however could have been better if it was in the dark but we did not have the kind of lighting we had expected. The forms and conventions used when I did a tracking shot of Handsworth establishes what the overall area is like a what the hood and ghetto parts of Handsworth e.g. the police van, this reinforces back to my genre of gangster biopic.

shooting schedule

Today

today 30/3/12 I had went into school to do the finishing touches on my editing then realised that the still images doesn’t really fit into the continuity of film so I had grabbed a camera and tri pod and started to film Soho road then I had imported it and saw where it would fit in my film. Then I just put the finishing touches in my film such as the titles and the transactions i will need and I will give my footage to my teacher the next time I see him to see if there is any improvements to be made.

Day 3

Today I decided to shoot in my free periods on a Wednesday afternoon so me and my partner had to bring out a year 7 kid from his physical education lesson so I had to go to the heads of colleges to ask them what lesson he has next and had go myself to that teacher and ask him if it is possible to get that student out their lesson. Once I had done that I had got all my actors and set up the sound, the following problems were that my partner kept on laughing in the scene and that there was lot of background interruptions so I had to wait for people to go before I could film certain parts also we had to take many shots of the character because he wasn’t really doing it right or the other characters were having a laugh.

day 2

Today I decided to shoot after school it only consisted of 3 of us in the scene I think that it went quite well however the only problem was that the battery kept on running out every two minutes so I had to keep charging it maybe i should have checked before I took all the equipment and this time i checked that all my shots were in focus so I had played each shot back overall the day went good and I had tried using a new technique by using a elastic band for my panning shot so it runs more smoothly.

Day1 of shooting

day 1

On this day I had setted up all my props which were going to be in my film
  • table
  • table cloth
  • briefcase
  • powder which was supposed to luk lyk drugs
  • money
  • paper roll up
  • fake blood
then I had to call all my actors to come down to shoot the film however some people said that they were stuck in traffic or they was somewhere else so i had to make them come later in the day and then i had checked if all the lighting was right and that the sound worked properly. Then when we were shooting the film we were having a laugh and it was great fun however we wasted alot of time doing it however we did shoot the scenes we had wanted. But when we were shooting our drive by scene it was really dark and we didnt hav the lighting to make everything clear.
The following day when we had gave the footage and we had a look at it and had realised the whole film was out of shot and the drive by scene was to dark this was a disaster so we had reshoot the whole scene again.

my preliminary video

This my first video that I had made it was quite challenging because it was awkward scene for the characters to do and that the actors kept on laughing because of this however I tried to edit my best.
